Los Angeles - Sony launched the 'Music Unlimited' feature of its Qriocity cloud-based content streaming service in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain over the weekend, and plans to bring the service to the U.S. during the current quarter, Bloomberg reported.

The service lets users pay a subscription fee for access to six million songs from the major labels and others, which are stored online "in the cloud" and streamed on-demand to Sony televisions, Blu-ray players, home theater systems, PlayStation game consoles and PCs -- and eventually Android devices.

The service launched in the U.K. and Ireland in September 2010, chiefly because Omnifone -- the company that powers the service -- is based in the U.K., according to Bloomberg.

In Europe, Qriocity Music Unlimited costs about $5.41 per month for a basic tier with limited catalog, or about $13.55 for the premium tier.
